Castanopsis rockii is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia. The nuts are edible.

Castanopsis rockii is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are studded with simple spikes. The spines are straight, close together and completely cover the surface of the fruit cup. The fruit cups, including the spines, are at least four centimeters in diameter, usually 4.5 to 6.5 centimeters. There are two or three of you standing on a rachis .

Two to four nuts, rarely just one, are formed per fruit cup. Your scar only takes up the base of the nut and is only partially fused with the fruit cup skin.

Flowering time is November to December. The fruit ripens from February to March.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand, China and Vietnam. It grows in deeper mountain forests, in mixed deciduous forests and in oak - pine forests. It occurs at altitudes of 650 to 2000 m, mostly 1600 to 2000 m.
