The Castello Ducale is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the summit of a rock spur, on the slopes of which lies the old Pescosansonesco ( Italian Pescosansonesco Vecchio ) of the Italian municipality of the same name in the province of Pescara, which was abandoned after a landslide in 1934 .

History and description

The castle was built by the Counts Sansoneschi in the 10th century in the highest part of the old village. From the 11th to the 13th century it was used to monitor the valley. It was abandoned in the 18th century. The ruins collapsed almost completely in the Majella earthquake on September 26, 1933.
