Castillo de Embid
The Castillo de Embid is a castle in Embid , a municipality in the province of Guadalajara in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha ( Spain ), which was built in the 14th century. The castle, standing on a hill above the village, is a protected architectural monument .
history
Alfonso XI In 1351 ordered the construction of the castle, which became an important base of the border fortifications between the Kingdom of Castile and the Kingdom of Aragon . The castle was set on fire during the War of the Spanish Succession in the early 18th century.
description
The castle is built on a hexagonal plan and is secured by round defensive towers. In the middle, the free-standing, square main tower overlooks the fortifications. The northern part of the castle with its battlements has been almost completely preserved.
