Castillo de la Muela
The Castillo de la Muela is a castle in Consuegra , a municipality in the province of Toledo in the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha ( Spain ), which was built in the Middle Ages . The castle on the Calderico hill, where the Consuegra windmills are also located, is a protected monument .
history
The castle was probably built in the first stages of the Reconquista . Under Alfonso VIII it was assigned to the Order of St. John , who set up the seat of the La Mancha priory and expanded the castle, which received a double curtain wall, four fortress towers and an outer wall passage. The castle was destroyed in 1813 during the Spanish War of Liberation . The ruins, which came into private hands due to the expropriation of the Johanniter during the secularization in 1836, became the property of the municipality in 1962. The renovation work received a big boost when a construction school was founded in 1985.
