Catalano Grimaldi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Catalano Grimaldi (* 1415 in Monaco; † July 1457 ) from the Grimaldi family was Lord of Monaco from 1454 to 1457 .

Catalan was the son of the Seigneur of Monaco Jean I and the Pomelline Grimaldi. Together with his father, he served in the military for various foreign rulers.

After the death of his father in 1454, he took control of Monaco.

Since Catalan was of poor health, however, he died three years after the death of his father in 1457. He left behind a daughter Claudine Grimaldi .

Although he had made his daughter the sole heir in his will of 1457, after his death his mother Pomelline took over the rule as guardian of his six-year-old daughter. She was married to his cousin, her grand-uncle Lambert Grimaldi , who was 36 years her senior and who was to become the next master of Monaco.
