The Cataract Falls are waterfalls on Mill Creek in Owen County , Indiana . They are the largest cases in this US state based on the amount of water.
The falls consist of two stages - the upper falls with a height of six meters, about five meters high, lower falls just under a kilometer downstream. In total, the Mill Creek overcomes 26 meters in altitude in the area of the Cataract Falls. The lower falls are in the high water area of the Cagles Mill Lake and thus flooded during high water.
Various water mills were built on the falls from the early 19th century onwards and ensured the upswing of the small town of Cataract in Jennings Township . Since the decline of these industries, the Cataract Falls have been particularly important for tourism.
The Cataract Falls State Recreation Area , a state recreation area , extends along the cataracts . This also includes the Cataract Covered Bridge above the falls .
