Cavalerius is an impact crater on the western edge of the front of the moon , which is why it appears strongly distorted from Earth. It lies on the western edge of the Oceanus Procellarum , north of the Hevelius crater . The edge is irregular and somewhat eroded, the inner wall has terracing . The Massif Central is divided into three parts.
To the northeast is the Planitia Descensus ("Landing Level"), the state office of the Soviet Luna 9 space probe .
