Cecil Grayson

Cecil Grayson (born February 5, 1920 , † April 28, 1998 in Oxford ) was a British Romanist and Italianist.

Life

Grayson attended Batley Grammar School , served six years in India, and graduated from St Edmund Hall , Oxford in 1947 . From 1948 he taught at Oxford, from 1958 to 1987 as Serena Professor of Italian Studies .

Grayson was long time President of the Oxford Dante Society. He was a member of several academies. In 1979 he was elected a member ( Fellow ) of the British Academy .

Grayson was Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE, 1992).
