from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cecilia Jarlskog (* 1941 ) is a Swedish theoretical physicist who mainly works on elementary particle physics .

Jarlskog received her doctorate in theoretical particle physics in 1970 at Lund University of Technology and then worked at CERN , in Lund and Gothenburg until 1972 , before becoming a professor in Bergen in Norway in 1976 , at Stockholm University in 1985 and at the Institute for Mathematical Physics at Lund University of Technology in 1994 has been. She has been professor emerita there since 2015 .

From 1984 she is a member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences , from 1997 of the Norwegian Academy and since 2005 of the Academia Europaea . From 1989 to 2000 she was one of the five members of the Swedish Nobel Committee for Physics (which she chaired in 1999 when t'Hooft and Veltman received the award) and has been on the Board of Trustees of the Nobel Foundation since 1996 . From 1998 to 2004 she was responsible for contacts with the member states at CERN . She is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Nordic Institutes for Theoretical Physics .

She is an honorary doctor from University College Dublin and several Chinese universities.

Jarlskog worked a. a. about CP violation , supersymmetry, and great unified theories . In doing so, she identified a new class of invariant quantities in CP-violating supersymmetric models, which are now called Jarlskog invariants . She is (co-) author of more than 150 scientific articles and editor of several books, including a. one about the physicist Gunnar Källén .
