Celedonio Romero

Celedonio Romero (born March 2, 1913 in Cienfuegos , Cuba, † May 8, 1996 in San Diego ) was a Spanish guitarist , composer , poet and founder of the guitar ensemble Los Romeros .

Life

Born in Cuba while his parents were on a business trip, Romero began learning to play the guitar at the age of five. He later studied at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid with Joaquín Turina without ever having had an actual guitar teacher.

Despite his prominence in Spain, the dictator Francisco Franco's regime refused him permission to perform abroad. That is why he emigrated to the USA with his wife Angelita and their three sons Celin , Pepe and Angel during an advance visit to relatives , where he successfully continued his career, recorded records and published compositions.

One of his students was Christopher Parkening .

Romero was of Juan Carlos I in the Order of Isabella the Catholic recorded. He died of lung cancer in San Diego, California, aged 83.
