Los Romeros

Los Romeros are a Spanish-American guitar ensemble. Founder of the quartet , which has existed since 1960, was Celedonio Romero (1913-1996), he initially played in a formation with his sons Celín Romero , Pepe Romero and Angel Romero . Later the grandchildren Celino Romero and Lito Romero took part . The patriarch, "Don Celedonio", taught his children to play the guitar at an early age and produced a dynasty of guitar players.

Initially based in Málaga ( Spain ), the Romeros emigrated to California during the Franco dictatorship in 1957 . In the United States , the Romeros performed with various symphony orchestras: the Boston Symphony Orchestra , the Cleveland and Chicago Symphony Orchestras , the Philadelphia Orchestra , and others in Los Angeles (under Morton Gould ), San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Further collaborations took place with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Chamber Soloists and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. The Romeros also performed solo and duo performances at their joint appearances.

King Juan Carlos made the Romero brothers Celin and Pepe Knights of the Order of Isabel la Catolica in 2000 .

Los Romeros mainly play classical guitar arrangements. You may receive orchestral support for CD recordings. a. by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Orchestra under Neville Marriner . They play Antonio Vivaldi , Joaquín Rodrigo , Federico Moreno Torroba , Georges Bizet , Manuel de Falla , Enrique Granados , Domenico Scarlatti and other composers, as well as original compositions by Celedonio Romero .
