Celia Paul

Celia Paul (born November 11, 1959 in Trivandrum , India ) is a British artist.

Life

Celia Paul is the middle of five daughters of the Anglican theologian Geoffrey Paul . Her father worked for a time as a missionary and as a seminary leader in Kerala , where she grew up. Theologian Jane Williams, wife of theologian Rowan Williams , is a sister. The family returned to England in 1965.

Paul studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1976 to 1981 . There she met the painter Lucian Freud , who at the time was teaching as a tutor. Between 1978 and 1988 it was one of Freud's multiple female relationships. They have their son Frank Paul, who was born in 1984 and also became an artist. Celia Paul was a model for Freud on several occasions. Paul works as a painter and has had several exhibitions. Between 1977 and 2007 she mainly painted portraits of her mother, and since then she has also painted her sisters and self-portraits.

Paul married Steven Kupfer in 2011.
