Celithemis is a genus of dragonflies consisting of eight species. The genus belongs to the subfamily Leucorrhiniinae and wasdescribedby Hermann August Hagen in 1861 . A dragonfly previously known as Libellula eponina servedas the generotype . The range extends from southeast Canada over the eastern United States to Cuba and the Bahamas .

Celithemis species are small to medium-sized dragonflies and reach lengths between 26 and 43 millimeters. The blue or black abdomen has yellow or red spots in some species. The pterothorax , the part of the chest ( thorax ) to which the wings attach, is reddish with black stripes or completely black. Your hind wings in particular are greatly enlarged. In addition, they usually have a brown or orange pattern.
