Center for Earth and Planetary Studies

The Center for Earth and Planetary Studies is a Smithsonian Institution- owned research facility in Washington, DC , United States founded in 1972. The center conducts scientific research in the fields of planetology , geophysics and biophysics . As NASA's Regional Planetary Image Facility, the center stores images and maps of planets and their moons . It also saves recordings made by Space Shuttles . The center oversees the two exhibitions Exploring the Planets and Looking at Earth of the National Air and Space Museum , which also houses the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies. In addition, all other areas of the museum are supported.

The center deals with the investigation of the tectonic history of the planet Mercury , the development of geological maps of the planet Venus , the research of geomorphology on Earth and the exploration of the terrain formations of Mars .
