Centhron is a German electro - and EBM - band .
history
The band Centhron was founded in 2001 by Elmar Schmidt (vocals, synthesizer and programming) and Jörg Herrmann (programming), who self-published the demo CD Melek Taus in 2002 and gave their first concerts with Suicide Commando . In 2003 the first CD Lichtsucher was released by Starfish Music. The band performed in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy and played with bands like Suicide Commando, SITD , KiEw , Xotox , Agonoize , Reaper , Psyclon Nine , Grendel , Soman and many more. The live band was expanded to include Melly Thies (vocals), Stefan Thies (bass) and Anette Schmidt (live synthesizer). In 2006 the second album Gottwerk was released on the Final Dusk Records label.
In 2009 the band released the album Red Star on Scanner, a sub-label of Dark Dimensions. The pressing plant initially refused to press the CD and justified this with questionable content.
In 2011 Dominator was released , also by Scanner. On the tour that followed, the band was supplemented by bassist Markus Vogler. Centhron toured Europe and Russia with Combichrist . Anette Schmidt left the band in 2012 and was replaced by Sven Hegewald on the synthesizer and Louisa Hartwig as the singer. Anette returned to Centhron in 2014, but in 2016 her position was taken over by Elmar Schmidt's wife Sandra.
In February 2013 the album Asgard was released; the successor Beast was released on November 28, 2014. The latest album, Allvater, was released on March 24, 2017. In addition, Lichtsucher and Gottwerk were reissued on November 23, 2018 in a remastered version and both were provided with three previously unreleased songs from their respective creative periods.
style
Centhron describe their style as harsh electro and a further development of EBM, which is characterized by massive basslines and rather minor and recurring melodies. The dominant electric bass in the offbeat and the use of choirs are characteristic. The singing ranges between screaming and shouting, with electronic distortion often used. Occasionally movie quotes or spoken text passages are inserted. In terms of content, the songs deal primarily with politics, violence, sex and - from the release of Asgard - increasingly with Norse mythology , with no ministry being taken. Above all, the vulgar choice of words in songs like "Cunt" or "Pornoqueen" repeatedly brought criticism. The appearance of the artists in black leather and latex underlines the reference to SM practices.
The texts are mainly written in German. A few English-language songs could be found on the earlier albums; since Asgard only German songs with a few English passages have been published.
