Agonoize is a German post-industrial band.
Band history
Agonoize was founded in 2002 by Mike Johnson and Oliver Senger. The two met their singer Chris L. in a Berlin club. The singer was also a live keyboardist on Dance or Die . Their first album was Assimilation: Chapter One in 2004 , followed by EPs Paranoid Destruction and Open the Gate / to Paradise . Agonoize gave the first live concert after the release of the first MCD at the Dark City Festival in Edinburgh in April 2004. In 2005 the EP V 2.0 - Evil Gets an Upgrade and the double album 999 were released . A year later the limited EP Ultraviolent Six was released . The song Koprolalie was played relatively often in scene clubs. The album Sieben followed in 2007 and Hexakosioihexekontahexa in 2009 .
Surname
The band name is a compound word consisting of the English verb agonise ( English for "torment") and the noun noise (English for "noise", "noise"). The “z” instead of the softer “s” is intended to represent a reference to “industrial sounds [sic!] ” .
Music genre
The music genre of Agonoize is called Aggrotech, sometimes also called Hellektro. Mostly fast, technoid rhythms and trance- like leads are combined with highly electronically distorted vocals. The musical basis of Agonoize are two synthesizers , guitars are completely missing. The lyrics on the first albums are written in English and German, with the German lyrics being in the foreground from 999 . In places they are provocative and often deal with evil, resistance to society ( public enemy ) and in places are underlined with obscene expressions ( coprolalia ). When performing live, Agonoize use fake blood and sperm .
reception
Agonoize initially polarized in the black scene , especially through their stage show and the lyrics, which were characterized by many as "flat". In particular, the song Koprolalie was associated with the line “Fick mich”. The song was also Agonoize's biggest hit and was repeatedly requested in the discos of the black scene. Today, however, Agonoize see themselves as having grown as a songwriter.
Other Projects
Members Mike Johnson and Oliver Senger are also with Sero. Overdose, Virtual Embrace, Infection and Sero Overdose active. Mike Johnson also runs his own tattoo studio.
