Central is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in Cambridge in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It provides the eponymous Central Square access to line Red Line .

history

The Central Station was opened together with the Park Street , Kendall / MIT and Harvard stations in March 1912. The mosaics that represent the name of the station above the platforms also date from this period .

The underground station has two tracks that are accessible via two side platforms .

building

The subway station is located in Central Square at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue , Western Avenue , Prospect Street, and Magazine Street . It is completely barrier-free .

There is a connection to eight MBTA bus routes at the station, and there are also 36 parking spaces for bicycles.
