The Central Romana Corporation (CR) is an agri-tourism company based in La Romana in the Dominican Republic .
Agriculture and rail transport
The basis of the agricultural division is the cultivation and processing of sugar cane . For the transport from the fields to the sugar mill in La Romana , the company operates a 354-kilometer rail network in standard gauge , on which 17 of its own diesel locomotives (mostly of the GE 70-ton switcher type , built before 1959) and 900 freight wagons are on the move. The company's sugar factory produces 400,000 tons of cane sugar annually , which is 70% of the country's total production. The chemical furfural is also produced from the remains of sugar processing , with the plant in La Romana being the world's largest factory for this.
Tourism and real estate
The Casa de Campo settlement (upscale hotels, villas, marina and golf courses) and the Altos de Chavón tourist attraction are owned by the company (usually through subsidiaries), as are La Romana Airport and Central Romana Port .
