Centrocoris variegatus is a bug from the family of the border bugs (Coreidae).

features

The light brown colored bugs are about 11 mm long. There are spikes on the sides of the base of the two feelers . The pronotum is slightly curved upwards on the sides. At the rear edge of the pronotum there are three teeth on either side.

Occurrence

Centrocoris variegatus occurs throughout the Mediterranean. The species is also represented in the Middle East (Iran). The bug species was introduced in northern California (San Francisco, Sacramento) (first recorded in May 2009). The species is considered a pest there .

Similar species

Centrocoris spiniger is a very similar species that is usually lighter in color. A distinguishing feature is the length of the trunk (rostrum). In C. spiniger this extends to the rear end of the body, in C. variegatus only to the middle pair of legs.
