Centrocoris spiniger is a bug from the family of the edge bugs (Coreidae).

features

The light brown colored bugs are 6-10 mm long. There are spikes on the sides of the base of the two feelers . The pronotum is slightly curved upwards on the sides. At the rear edge of the pronotum there are three teeth on either side.

Occurrence and way of life

Centrocoris spiniger is a type of bed bug that occurs throughout the Mediterranean. Their distribution area also extends over the Middle East and Central Asia . In Europe, their occurrence extends north to the Loire and Austria .

The bugs are often found on Asteraceae , especially thistles , as well as on sweet grasses (Poaceae) and foxtail plants .

Similar species

Centrocoris variegatus is a very similar species that is usually darker in color. A distinguishing feature is the length of the trunk (rostrum). In C. spiniger this extends to the rear end of the body, in C. variegatus only to the middle pair of legs.
