concept

Ceph (debate / sɛf / ) is the IT -Umfeld a distributed storage solution ( storage solution). Core component is RADOS ( English reliable autonomic distributed object store ) one on any number of servers redundant distributable object store (English object store ). Ceph offers the user three types of storage: an object storage ( RADOS gateway ) compatible with the Swift and S3 API , virtual block devices ( RADOS block devices ) and CephFS , a distributed file system .

Ceph can also be provided as a RADOS Block Device (RBD) via the Ceph iSCSI gateway as a highly available iSCSI target. This means that it can be used on the client side by many operating systems (including Windows).

more details

As usual with distributed file systems , the objects are replicated (or stored redundantly ). In this way, Ceph can absorb the failure of any component and heal itself, that is, restore destroyed data from replicas on other storage media.

With the release of version 10.2 in April 2016, CephFS was declared stable.
