Cereus adelmarii is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Brazilian primatologist and discoverer of the species, Adelmar Faria Coimbra-Filho.

Cereus adelmarii has a shrubby growth with a few prostrate stems, the tips of which point upwards. The green shoots are 40 to 90 centimeters long and 3 to 7 centimeters in diameter. There are four to six slightly wavy ribs that are up to 1.8 centimeters high. The areoles on it are 2 to 3 centimeters apart and covered with brownish wool. The brown thorns emerging from them are straight and widened at their base. The single central spine is 1.3 to 3.5 inches long. Most of the five radial spines reach lengths of 7 to 30 millimeters. The three lowest of them are the longest.

The white flowers are up to 25 centimeters long. The spherical fruits have a diameter of 3.5 to 5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Cereus adelmarii is distributed on termite mounds in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso . The first description was published as Monvillea adelmarii in 1985 by Carlos Toledo Rizzini and Armando de Mattos . Pierre Josef Braun placed them in the genus Cereus in 1988 .
