Cereus huilunchu is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Cereus huilunchu grows tree-shaped, is richly branched and reaches heights of 3 to 4 meters. A distinct trunk is formed. The cylindrical, segmented, gray-green shoots have a diameter of 6 to 7 centimeters. There are five compressed ribs that are 2 to 3 inches high. The elliptical areoles on it are gray. The four to six needle-like thorns are gray and 2.5 to 3 inches long.

The white flowers are up to 13 inches long. The 6 to 7 centimeters long, elongated fruits are red and contain a white pulp .

Distribution and systematics

Cereus huilunchu is common in the Bolivian departments of La Paz and Cochabamba at altitudes of 2000 meters. The first description was published in 1951 by Martín Cárdenas .
