Cereus kroenleinii is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the former director of the Jardin Exotique in Monaco, Marcel Kröhnlein.

Cereus kroenleinii grows shrubby with creeping or ascending shoots . The long, cylindrical, dark green, strongly glaucoma shoots are initially square in cross-section and later approximately circular. They are 1 to 4 meters long and up to 2.5 centimeters in diameter. There are four, rarely five, ribs that are clearly divided into cusps. The circular areoles on it have long, woolly hair . The otherwise separated areoles flow together in the area of ​​the shoot tip. The very thin, needle-like, piercing thorns are dark brown and have a yellow base. The single central spine is 2 to 3 centimeters long. The five radial spines are up to 1.5 centimeters long. The lowest radial spike is the shortest.

The white flowers are 9 to 10 inches long. Your bracts have pink tips. The egg-shaped, ruby-red fruits are tinged with purple and up to 3.7 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cereus kroenleinii is common in Brazil , Mato Grosso do Sul , Paraguay , eastern Bolivia and northern Argentina . The first description was published in 1995 by Nigel Paul Taylor .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
