Ceropegia radicans is a plant of the genus ceropegia ( ceropegia ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Ceropegia radicans is a creeping leaf and shoot succulent with little branching stems that quickly root at the nodes. They measure about 3 to 5 mm in diameter, are longitudinally grooved with a slightly rough surface. The roots are fleshy, spindle-shaped in shape and arranged in tufts. The persistent, fleshy leaves are stalked and elliptical to almost round. They measure 4 × 2.5 cm, the stems are 0.3 to 1 cm long. The stalked inflorescence is 1 to 3-flowered, the flower stalks can be between 0.5 and 1 cm long and have a diameter of 2 to 3 mm. The sepals are lanceolate and 4 to 6 mm long. The corolla is up to 5.5 to 8 inches long. The petals are whitish or greenish-white and green longitudinally striped. The crown cup is cylindrical, with a rounded pentagonal cross section. It is colored green and white and striped lengthways. It has the dimensions 12 to 17 × 5 to 5 mm. The funnel-shaped corolla tube with hair on the inside has a basal (above the corolla) diameter of only 3 mm. It expands to about 15 mm and is spotted purple there. The 20 to 25 mm long corolla lobes are rounded, triangular to lanceolate and fused at the tips. The free edges are folded outwards. Inside they are basal purple-brown, followed by a white transverse band, then a black-brown transverse band; this area is finely haired. The upper half is colored green, the edges are covered with purple, flexible, long hair. The secondary crown has a short stalk and a cup-shaped fused, with a more or less straight, outwardly curved edge. The interstaminal corolla lobes are pocket-shaped. The staminal corolla lobes stand upright, are linear and incline towards each other. They measure around 4 × 0.4 mm. The tips can also be bent back slightly.

Occurrence

This species occurs in the Eastern Cape Province ( South Africa ). The species is now grown in specialist nurseries and offered regularly. They are relatively easy to hold.

Systematics

Ulli Meve distinguishes between two subspecies in the succulent lexicon: Ceropegia radicans ssp. radicans and Ceropegia radicans ssp. smithii (MRHenderson) RADyer . The latter was originally a separate species, Ceropegia smithii M.R. Hend. , has been described. It differs from the ssp. radicans by the somewhat smaller leaves, the edges of which are wavy, as well as by the shorter and more blunt corolla lobes.
