The Cerro del Aripo is the highest mountain in Trinidad and Tobago at 940 m . It belongs to the Northern Range , a low mountain range in the north of Trinidad , and is located northeast of the city of Arima in the Tunapuna-Piarco region .

Elven forest and cloud forest shape the vegetation in the higher altitudes.
fauna
The Trinidad Guan , an endemic chicken bird, is at home here in the dense rainforest. The Golden Tree Frog (Phytotriades auratus) lives in the leaves of the bromeliad family Glomeropitcairnia erectiflora , a frog only found on the peaks of the Northern Range and the Paria Peninsula . Thousands of nocturnal oil birds live in large limestone caves below the summit plateau. They stay in the caves during the day and feed on tropical fruits at night.
