Cesar Debaets

Cesar Debaets (born June 16, 1891 in Kortrijk ; † November 20, 1974 in Gent ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Cesar Debaets was one of the most successful six-day drivers of the 1920s. He started at a total of 28, of which he won two with Jules Van Hevel and one with Emile Thollembeek . He was one of the first cyclists from Flanders to travel to the United States to race. He achieved a total of 200 victories, suffering numerous injuries from falls, including nine shoulder, two skull and seven rib fractures and blood poisoning.

Cesar Debaets was particularly admired for his elegant driving style. He had four brothers - Gerard , Gaston-Octave, Michel, and Arthur - who were also all racing drivers; Gerard and César were the most successful in the family. From 1932 to 1964 he ran the “Hotel Albert” (today “The Rambler”) in Ghent.
