Česká sportovní společnost

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Česká sportovní společnost ( German  Czech Sports Society ; also just Společnost or ČSS Praha ) was a sports club from Prague and was founded in 1909 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire . Společnost was one of the leading ice hockey clubs in Prague and operated an ice rink. In addition to ice hockey and bandy sports , the club had departments for tennis , rowing, winter sports and many more. The club's clubhouse was on Schützeninsel . The association was dissolved between 1922 and 1923.

Bandy and ice hockey

In March 1909, the club's players took part in the ice hockey tournament in Berlin , where they were eliminated in the preliminary round as a syndicate with SK Slavia Prague .

The club took part in the Bohemian Championship and the Ice Hockey Championship of the Bohemian Crown Lands in 1911 . In the final of both championships, the team from Společnost lost to SK Slavia Prague. A year later, Společnost won the Bohemian championship by beating DEHG Prague 2-0 in the final.

The ice hockey tournament in Les Avants 1914 took place from January 16-18, 1914. The Ice Hockey Federation of Bohemia, the Český svaz Hockeyový, announced a team that should consist of players from the clubs Společnost and Slavia Prague. Ultimately, however, only Společnost players traveled to Switzerland, where they reached third place in the tournament. A week later, the players, this time reinforced by Slavia players, took part in the LIHG championship in 1914 , where they finished fourth as the Bohemian national team.

In the following years, the club was one of the most influential ice hockey clubs in the Bohemian capital and in 1919 took second place in the championship of the Czechoslovak Ice Hockey Association ( Mistrovství ČSHS ).

The most famous players of the club were the national players Karel Wälzer , Jan Palouš , Karel Hartmann , Josef Šroubek , Josef Rublič , František Rublič and Jaroslav Řezáč .

The hockey department was founded in 1913 and debuted in October 1913 against DEHG Prague. The team consisted mainly of ice hockey players, and the game was played according to the English country hockey rules.
