Cetology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A cetologist shoots a biopsy arrow at a killer whale . A piece of whale skin is removed with it. This removal is harmless for the animal because the arrow ricochets off it.

Cetology (from ancient Greek κῆτος kētos , 'whale', ' sea monster ', + -logy ) is the science that deals with around 80  species from the order of the whales ( Cetacea ). These include all dolphin and porpoise species.

Cetology is a sub-discipline of mammalogy , the science of mammals , and as such belongs to special zoology .
