Château Angélus is a famous French winery . The winery from the Saint Émilion appellation has been classified in the highest classification Premier Grand Cru Classé A since 2012 . Château Angélus is located at the foot of a slope not far from Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse , which lies on top of the Saint-Émilion plateau .

The winery has a vineyard area of ​​23 hectares ; the average age of the vines is 30 years. The current planting is divided into 50% Merlot , 47% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon . The average annual production is 125,000 bottles, the average hectare yield 40 hl / ha (as of 2006). A second wine is bottled under the name Le Carillon de Angélus with an average of 15,000 bottles.

Château Angélus (The Angel) is owned by the De Boüard de Laforest family. The name "Angélus" derives from the location of the property, which is located equidistant from three surrounding chapels and thus the three times daily chimes of the Angelus can be heard from three sides according to Catholic tradition. An Angelus bell is depicted on the label of the wine bottles. Angélus wine is highly valued by many connoisseurs, especially in Switzerland, for its pleasant, smooth style.

The best vintages at Château Angélus are 2009 ( wine rating : 99 Parker points ), 2000 (96PP), 1998 (95+ PP), 1995 (95 PP), 1990 (96 PP) and 1989 (96 PP).

history

In 1909 Comte Maurice de Boüard de Laforest inherited a 13 hectare vineyard called Domaine de Mazerat from his aunt, the widow of Chevalier Charles Souffrain de Lavergne. In 1924 he bought a three-hectare parcel called Clos de l'Angélus from the Gurchy family. After the Second World War, the winery was renamed to the name we know today. In 1969, a plot of land from Château Beau-Séjour Bécot was acquired .
