The Chūgoku Shimbun ( Japanese 中国 新聞 , dt. "Newspaper of the Chūgoku Region") is a local Japanese daily newspaper based in Hiroshima . It serves the Chūgoku region with market shares in the prefectures of Hiroshima , Yamaguchi , Shimane and Okayama . The morning edition has a circulation of around 700,000, the evening edition of around 70,000 copies daily.

history

The newspaper was founded as Chūgoku ( 中國 ) on May 5, 1892 by its publisher Yamamoto Saburō and renamed the Chūgoku Shimbun in 1908 . When the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 , the newspaper lost 113 employees as well as the publishing house and all of its equipment. On August 9th , the paper was able to appear again with the help of other newspaper publishers.
