The Chactidae are a family of scorpions (Scorpiones) with, depending on the literature, 11 to 16 genera and approx. 198 species .

features

The shape of the chela is rounded. The spiracles are small and oval in shape. There are no or up to two side eyes. The genital operculum (genital cover) of the females is divided almost in its entire length. The teeth of the Chelicerae are typical of the Chactidae family .

distribution

Representatives of the Chactidae are common in North America as well as in Central and South America . The genus Belisarius , which is widespread in Europe and previously assigned to the Chactidae, is currently part of the Troglotayosicidae family . Thus, Europe no longer belongs to the family's range.

Systematics

The assignments to the Chactidae are sometimes quite controversial and several genera have been transferred to other families several times. The genus Auyantepuia is partially viewed as a synonym, but the synonymization of Lourenço and Qi (2007) is not recognized and they have placed other species in the genus, a similar problem can be seen with Guyanochactas . The genus Belisarius is currently assigned to the Troglotayosicidae family. After Soleglad and Fet, the family Chactidae is divided into three subfamilies (Brotheinae, Chactinae and Uroctoninae) with 11 genera. Ochoa et al. see the genera Chactopsis , Chactopsoides and Megachactops belonging to the family in 2013 .

According to The Scorpion Files , the following genera belong to the Chactidae family:
