Chain & The Gang (also Chain and The Gang ) is a garage rock / rock'n'roll band from Washington, DC ( USA ), signed to K Records.

Band history

Chain & the Gang is a project founded in 2009 by the US indie musician Ian Svenonius ( Nation of Ulysses ). The new project draws on the support of other well-known indie musicians such as Fred Thomas ( Saturday Looks Good to Me ), Brian Weber ( Dub Narcotic Soundsystem ), Brett Lyman ( Bad Thoughts ) and Sarah Pedal ( Seahorse Liberation Army ). The line-up is loose and changes from time to time. The first album Down with Liberty… Up with the Chains was released in April 2009 on K Records . This was followed by a US tour with The Hive Dwellers , the band of Calvin Johnson , owner of K Records. Since the two bands overlap in terms of personnel, only the singer changed at each stage.

A second album was released in 2011 with Music's Not for Everyone . In 2012 the album In Cool Blood followed , which was recorded in mono .

Music genre

Musically, the band moves between indie rock , funk , garage punk and lo-fi . The lyrics of the first two albums are in the typical philosophical jargon of Svenonius, while the lyrics of the last album are rather rebellious and youthful.
