Chalinochromis popelini is in the East African Lake Tanganyika endemic occurring cichlid .

description

Chalinochromis popelini reaches a length of 15 cm, is beige in color and shows three blackish stripes on the sides of the body. One of the stripes runs along the base of the dorsal fin, another at the level of the upper sideline and the bottom one at the level of the lower sideline. In contrast to Chalinochromis brichardi , which has a rounded or trimmed caudal fin, the caudal fin of Chalinochromis popelini is indented or lyre-shaped. In the dorsal fin there are 22 to 23 hard rays, in the anal fin there are seven. There is no gender dimorphism .

Way of life

Similar to the species of the genus Julidochromis , Chalinochromis popelini inhabits the rock and scree zone of the lake. But they live less hidden, can be seen more often and are up to 20 meters away from the center of their territory. Chalinochromis popelini feeds on invertebrates, which it ingests from the growth of the rocks and lays its eggs as substrate spawners hidden between stones and rubble. According to outdoor observations by Pierre Brichard, the fish are monogamous and remain together for a long period or for their entire life.
