features

Chamaelinorops species are medium-sized lizards and reach head-trunk lengths of 3.3 to 5.5 cm (up to 7.5 cm in Chamaelinorops fowleri ). The monophyly of the genus is supported by a total of 39 apomorphies , 37 of which are molecular biological and two morphological, including the reduced body size.

The morphological include the parietal eye in the parietal bone or in the bone suture between the parietal bone and frontal bone , the T-shaped interclavicle, a bone that connects the actual clavicle with the breastbone (sternum), 4 or 5 lumbar vertebrae and 5 to 10 tail vertebrae in front of the first to autotomy enabled vertebrae. The caudal vertebrae in front of the first vertebra capable of autotomy do not have transverse processes behind them. The post frontal , a small, paired cover bone of the roof of the skull, is usually present. Palatine teeth are missing. The splenial bone, a small bone in the lower jaw of amphibians and reptiles, is missing. There is no gender dimorphism , i. H. Males and females look alike.
