The house Champagne Pol Roger , founded in 1849, is a manufacturer of champagne . As one of the last major champagne houses, the brand is still family-owned. The company is based in Épernay in Champagne in France.

From here, around 1.5 million bottles of sparkling wine are brought onto the market every year .

history

The founder, Pol Roger, was born on December 24, 1831, the son of a lawyer. He began his professional career in 1843 as a wholesaler in the wine business. In 1849 he felt called to found his own champagne house, the first vintages of which came on the market in 1853. His family supported him here because his father fell ill and could no longer earn an income. Initially, Pol Roger carried out contract sparkling for other champagne houses until maturation "sur lattes", until he himself became active on the English market in 1853. He also recognized the trend at the time towards champagnes with a significantly lower shipping dose and adjusted to it. When Pol Roger died in 1899, the family continued to run the house.

The owners of Champagne Pol Roger are members of the Primum Familiae Vini .

Champagne portfolio

The outstanding brand of the house is the vintage cuvée Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill . With this cuvée, Winston Churchill , who recognized this champagne at a meeting with Odette Pol Roger and which has developed into his preferred brand, is being honored on the 10th anniversary of his death. There are also three other vintage cuvées and three cross-vintage cuvées.
