The Peak Hill is a partially eroded hill in a rock wall on the English Channel coast near Sidmouth in Devon borders.

location

Peak Hill is just west of Sidmouth town center. It lies with its neighbor High Peak between Sidmouth and the village of Otterton . Sidmouth is 20 kilometers east of the city of Exeter , 14 kilometers south of Honiton and about 16 kilometers northeast of Exmouth . The highest point of Peak Hill is 156 feet above sea level.

geology

Peak Hill is part of the Jurassic Coast . On the coast side of Peak Hill three rock layers come to light: The Mercia Mudstones form with deposits of various shales , siltstones and sandstones , the base of the cliff. They formed 200 million years ago in the hot and dry climate of the Triassic .

Above these Triassic formations lie layers of Upper Greensand , a rock formation from the Cretaceous period that was formed about 80 million years ago.

Under the surface of Peak Hill lies a layer of flint- gravel. This layer is possibly the remainder of a dissolved Cretaceous top layer from the early Tertiary about 60 to 65 million years ago.
