The “Le Mesnil” from Salon

Champagne Salon is a champagne house based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger . The house was founded in 1911 by Eugène-Aimé Salon.

History of the house

Eugène-Aimé Salon, who had become rich through the fur trade, acquired one hectare of the best champagne crus in the Champagne wine-growing region in 1911 . His goal was to produce the best possible champagne for himself and his guests . The basis for this was the location "Le Mesnil", the terroir of the "Côte des Blancs", and what he believed to be the best grape variety Chardonnay .

After initially vinifying exclusively for his own use, he commercialized his vintage champagne from 1921. Salon exclusively produces Blanc de Blancs champagne wines in selected years as a cuvée . In the 20th century, 37 years were designated for this. Owning vineyards in Le Mesnil only accounts for around a sixth of the grape production for the production of base wines , the rest is bought in on the strictly regulated market for champagne base wine .

As at the beginning of production, great value is still placed on quality- oriented cellar management . The legally prescribed minimum storage time of three years for vintage champagne is significantly exceeded. As a rule, the products are only put on the market after ten years, which of course requires appropriate storage capacities and a high capital commitment.

Champagne Salon has been part of the Laurent-Perrier trading group since 1988 .
