Rats & Star ( Jap. ラッツ&スター , Rattsu ando SUTA ), formerly known as Chanel , is a Japanese J-Pop - boy band , relying on Doo Wop specializes -beeinflusste music. The group is led by Masayuki Suzuki .

The name of the group is a palindrome that reads the same from the front as from the back. The real meaning of the name, however, is that "rats" who grew up in the poorer areas of the city could change their fortunes and become a collective "star" through the singing of Doo Wop.

history

In 1975 Masayuki Suzuki, who likes doo wop, got together with Masashi Tashiro and Nobuyoshi Kuwano to form a band called Chanels . The band debuted in 1980 with their first single called Runaway , which sold over a million copies and became a huge hit. In 1983 the band changed their name to today's Rats & Star, as French fashion giant Chanel filed complaints. Andy Warhol created the cover art for the album Soul Vacation and the name change did not seem to cause any reversals in customer buying behavior; the first single under the name Rats & Star, Me-Gumi no Hito , sold over 800,000 copies. In 1985 five members of the band married at the same time, which brought the group a lot of publicity. The following year, 1986, Rats & Star released a duet called Lonely Chaplain with Masayuki's older sister Kiyomi Suzuki , which also became a huge hit. Nevertheless, the band leader Masayuki Suzuki started a solo career and the band stopped their activities as much as possible. In 1996 Rats & Star was re-formed for half a year and the band released the single Yume de Aetara , which became popular enough to encourage the group to go on a farewell tour across Japan . In the same year they appeared for the first time in the Kōhaku Uta streets to present this song.

In 2006, Suzuki, Kuwano and Sato formed the Gosperats group with Tetsuya Murakami and Yuji Sakai , members of the Gospellers .

One-of-a-kind Andy Warhol prints of the album cover "Soul Vacation" sold for as little as US $ 25,000 each.
