Chang'an Avenue ( Chinese  長安街 , Pinyin Cháng'ān Jiē ) is a main street in the Chinese capital Beijing .

history

The name Chang'an is derived from Chang'an , today's Xi'an , one of the historic capitals of China.

The great funeral procession for Zhou Enlai passed through this street, military parades take place here, the May Fourth Movement (1919) and the protests of June 1989 also took place here .

Buildings

The avenue, which was spread over ten lanes in 2009, leads directly past Tian'anmen Square . Important buildings along this east-west axis are the Great Hall of the People , Zhongnanhai , several government buildings, the National Museum of China , the Center for the Performing Arts, Wangfujing , the Great Concert Hall and the headquarters of the Chinese People's Bank .
