Chantal Delsol
Chantal Delsol (born April 6, 1947 in Paris ), also Chantal Millon-Delsol is a French historian, philosopher and writer. She is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Marne-La-Vallée .
life and work
Delsol studied philosophy and was a student of Julien Freund , who, like Hannah Arendt, strongly influenced her thinking. In 1982 she did her doctorate at the Sorbonne as Docteur des lettres. Soon after, she was appointed to the University of Marne-La-Vallée, where she still teaches today. In 2007 she was appointed to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques . In her research she is mainly concerned with the history of political ideas, including a. with the historical development of populist politics. In their opinion, the roots of populism lie in the fact that the western democracies could not adequately convey their sociological universalism to the individual citizen; this therefore tends to "despise his liberators". Her culture-critical book Icarus Fallen: The Search for Meaning in an Uncertain World sparked a lengthy debate in the professional world, but was largely received positively. In 2001 she was awarded the Académie française prize for her work . In the German-speaking world, however, she is primarily known as a novelist (including Julias Geschichte , 2004).
Delsol also appears in France as Public Intellectual and represents positions of liberalism and personalism , and is a supporter of a federally structured Europe. In 2006, like some other French intellectuals, she demonstratively supported Robert Redeker 's criticism of Islam.
