Chantal Mathieu

Chantal Mathieu (born November 3, 1951 in Lille , France ) is a French harpist .

Life

Chantal Mathieu studied harp at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jacqueline Borot and later harmony with Roger Boutry , counterpoint with Alain Weber and chamber music with Christian Lardé . At the age of 14 she received the first price for harp there. After several successes in international competitions and many concerts with well-known orchestras from all over the world, in 1974 she received the position of solo harpist of the NDR Symphony Orchestra and a professorship at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

In 1977 Chantal Mathieu moved to Geneva and started a family. In addition to her activity as a soloist and chamber musician, she taught harp and chamber music at the Conservatoire de Lausanne .

Awards

  • 1st prize at the International Harp Competition in Israel 1970
  • 2nd prize at the Concours International d'Exécution Musicale de Genève, Special Prize of the Swiss Radio, 1974
  • 1st prize at the international competition of the Guilde des Solistes in Paris, "Prix Claude Debussy" for the best interpretation of Deux Danses for harp and string orchestra, 1976
