Charles-Edouard de Bavier (born November 2, 1893 in Dully , † April 2, 1975 in Givisiez ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Ernst Karl Eduard von Bavier was the third son of Helene Mathild Beck von Basel and Karl Eugen Eduard von Bavier (* 1842), the son of Rosalia (Chapuisat von Aclens, Kt Waadt) and Johann Anton von Bavier (* 1810; † 1881) .

Career

Bavier entered the foreign service in 1919. From 1924 to 1932 he was legation secretary in Rome , before moving to Paris in the same position the following year and then working as counselor at the Swiss embassy in Ankara until 1934 .

From August 28, 1934 to May 1, 1942, he was a member of the Legation Council and had the exequatur as Consul General in Milan : in 1933, almost 5,000 Swiss people lived in this city, which was about half the Swiss community in Fascist Italy. After 1920, numerous Italians developed a national consciousness that was also directed against the German-speaking Swiss. In 1930 Giovanni Bassanesi started in Lodrino TI and threw anti-fascist leaflets through Milan. In 1934 a Swiss fascist cell was founded in Milan. The consulate was upgraded to the consulate general.

Of 5 May 1942 to October 24, 1944 acted Bavier as charge d'affaires in the Wehrmacht occupied Athens and of 24 November 1944 to 9 February 1945, he headed the department protecting power in Berlin . Then he took over the office of Chargé d'affaires in Tehran until February 25, 1947 . He then became envoy there and stayed in Tehran until May 28, 1951, when he was entrusted with the task of envoy in Mexico City . He held this post until 1958. From the beginning of March to the end of December 1958 he was ambassador to Mexico City. He was retired on January 1, 1960.
