Charles Bourdon (born July 20, 1847 , † June 5, 1933 in Paris ) was a French engineer and officer in the Legion of Honor .

Live and act

Charles Bourdon attended the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures and completed his studies there in 1871.

On December 31, 1876, he joined the society "L. Corpet et Ch. Bourdon, mécaniciens et chaudronniers" with his friend and college student Lucien Corpet. This company produced steam locomotives, including the first Decauville locomotive called Lilliput. During the time they worked together with Lucien Corpet, the license for the construction of rocker arm machines of the Brown type was acquired. On December 31, 1879, he resigned from the joint company - Lucien Corpet remained the sole partner. This company continued to exist as the Corpet, Louvet et Cie steam locomotive factory until 1951.

In 1885 he appeared with two drafts for steam locomotives at the exhibition "Exposition de l'outillage et des travaux publics" in the Louvre. A locomobile designed by him on standard gauge was also shown there by the "Société franco-belge". Also in 1885, he designed a bucket chain excavator for the "Société franco-belge" based on the patents of Mr. Couvreux from the years 1882/83.

In 1887 he and Prosper Péchot received a patent for a 60 cm gauge steam locomotive for light railways. The locomotive was first discussed in Le Genie Civil in 1903 in comparison with other designs for the narrow-gauge railway.

In 1891 he and L. Chapron advertised a project to connect the separate train stations in Paris: Projet de Chemin de fer transversal, in which the lines to Lyon , Orléans , Vincennes , the east and the north were connected with a central station should be.

From 1895 he was a member of the editorial team of the most important technical magazine in France, in the "Comité Supérieur De Rédaction Du Génie Civil". He was also a teacher at his former college, the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures (Professeur du cours de Machines à vapeur).

In 1896 the magazine Le Genie Civil presented a steam generator for steam heating that came from his pen. It is a design for a low pressure steam heater that could find various uses, including railways.

In 1900 it was his task at the world exhibition in Paris to plan and ensure the "Service mécanique" for the exhibition of mechanical products. Charles Bourdon himself was represented as a designer: the company H. Brulé et Cie exhibited a steam engine he had planned with fourfold steam expansion and a condenser he had modified.

In the autumn of 1901, a competition and exhibition of drives with denatured alcohol took place in Paris. Charles Bourdon was president of the first section with stationary engines, locomotives and engine groups.

In 1918 Le Genie Civil reported in detail on the Péchot system and the Péchot-Bourdon locomotive .

Then there was another invention by Charles Bourdon: a condensate-free automatic oiler with multiple connections reported in 1927.

He died on June 5, 1933 after a long illness at the age of 86 in Paris.
