Babou AM Cisse

Alh. Babou AM Cisse ( June 12, 1943 - August 15, 2015 ) was a Gambian insurance manager and sports official .

Life

Cisse began his professional career with a very short stint as a teacher before becoming the manager of the Gambia Commercial and Development Bank (GCDB), manager of the Gambia National Insurance Company (GNIC) and general manager of Senegambia Insurance Company (SIC). He also had a contract with the Gambia Groundnut Council (GGC) and was under contract with Africell at the time of his death . In 1993 he was temporarily President of the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) and also President of the African Insurance Organization (AIO). In May 1985 he was Commissioner (now Governor) of the Lower River Region . In 1990, Cisse single-handedly relocated the West African Insurance Institute (WAII), the subregional insurance college from Liberia during the civil war, to Gambia. The Institute is now Kotu in the community Kanifing .

From 1973 until his death, Cisse was also president and co-founder of Hawks Football Club . He was also president of the Real de Banjul Football Club since it was founded in 1968–1972. From 1992 to 1993 he was an executive member and president of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) and represented the association at many CAF congresses and meetings. He was also the executive director and patron of the Gambia Roundball Association .

Cisse died in mid-2015 at the age of 72, and hundreds of people attended his funeral.
