Charles Carleton Massey also Charles Car lt on Massey usually only CC Massey (* 1838 in England , † 1905 ) was an English lawyer and theosophist .

life and work

During a trip to the United States in 1875, Massey heard of spiritualistic phenomena at the Eddy Brothers home in Chittenden , Vermont . During his subsequent visit there, he met Henry Steel Olcott and Helena Petrovna Blavatsky , whom he now joined. As a result, Massey co-founded and became a member of the Theosophical Society (TG). On September 7th he was present at a lecture given by George Henry Felt at the Blavatskys apartment in New York . During the following discussion the idea of founding the TG came up for the first time . The next day he was a co-signer of the founding charter for the TG.

In 1876 he received a deed of foundation from Olcott authorizing him to found a theosophical lodge. On June 27, 1878 he established the London Lodge as the first official lodge of the TG and took over the office of President. His formulation of goals for the London Lodge had a major influence on the later goals of the Theosophical Society . Because of the hustle and bustle around the First Report of the SPR , which preceded the Hodgson Report , he left the TG in July 1884.

Massey helped found the Society for Psychical Research in 1882 .
