Charles Edward Michener

Charles Edward Michener (born January 1907 in Red Deer , Alberta ; † October 15, 2004 in Toronto ) was a geologist and developer of an electromagnetic system with which a variety of mineral deposits were discovered and identified. In the course of his scientific career, he earned a Ph.D in geology and mining as well as a Professional Engineer (PEng). The mineral michenerite , which he discovered and was the first to study, was named after him.

Life

Michener graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1931 . He earned a Masters of Science degree from Cornell University in 1932 and another in 1940 from the University of Toronto. In the 1950s he discovered a large nickel deposit in northern Manitoba near Thompson for the company Inco Ltd., where he had worked since 1935. In 1968 he retired as President of the Canadian Nickel Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Inco Ltd. was. Michener then became a partner at the consulting firm Derry Michener Booth and Wahl . In 1994 he was honored for his services to the Canadian mining industry.

Michener was buried in Toronto on October 22, 2004.
