Charles Fenno Hoffman
Charles Fenno Hoffman (born February 7, 1806 in New York , † June 7, 1884 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania ) was an American writer and publicist. He was known both as a poet and a narrator in his day.
Life
Charles Fenno Hoffman was the son of a New York attorney and, like his father, studied law. After completing his studies, he also worked as a lawyer in his hometown for three years, but then devoted himself entirely to literature. In 1833 he founded Knickerbocker Magazine , which was influential at the time , but later gave up its management. He became editor and publisher of the Atlantic Monthly , later for a short time the New York Mirror and the New York Literary World .
Although he had lost a leg in childhood, he liked to be in the wilderness and sought the adventure that the pristine expanse of the west in North America still offered at that time.
He spent the last 35 years of his life in various mental hospitals.
