Charles Fleury
Charles Fleury (* around 1605 (place of birth unknown), † November 1652 in Paris ) was a French lutenist . In contemporary writings he is called Blancrocher .
Fleury was the son of a royal valet named Louis. His mother Mathurine de Vallois died in 1625. Apart from his appearances as a lutenist in Paris, there is hardly any reliable information about his life. He gained fame primarily through his sudden death as a result of falling from a staircase, where Johann Jakob Froberger was present and then composed a tombeau for harpsichord . Other composers who have set this event to music in a tombeau are the two lutenists Denis Gaultier and François Dufault as well as Louis Couperin, who is a friend of Froberger . The only composition ascribed to him is an allemande or gigue , which is contained in the manuscript Vaudry de Saizenay and is kept in the Besançon City Library .
