Charles Lamont

Charles Lamont (born May 5, 1895 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire , † September 12, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film director and screenwriter .

He made his debut as a director in 1923 with the short film The Big Game . Lamont shot a total of more than 200 films, mostly staging (mostly cheap) comedies. He directed Buster Keaton and Shirley Temple , among others , the latter he is said to have discovered for the film. He directed his first feature films from the mid-1930s. From 1942 he worked for the film studio Universal Studios . In 1943 he made his first film with Abbott and Costello on black ice with the film couple Abbott and Costello , and numerous others followed in the 1950s. He made his last film in 1956.
